An Unexpected Pattern: Shifting Taste Buds

When people book an energy session with me, they rarely reach out with the goal of changing their eating habits.

Some are seeking relief from chronic pain. Others are focused on improving mobility, increasing energy, supporting weight loss, or simply helping their bodies function more optimally. Food isn't usually part of the conversation, at least in the early stages of working together.

And yet, over the past several months, I’ve noticed something unexpected. A growing number of my regular clients have independently shared a remarkably similar experience:

"I just don't want ultra-processed food anymore."

Instead, they describe craving fresh fruit, vegetables, quality proteins, and foods that come directly from nature. The shift feels effortless—not forced. While these are personal experiences rather than a planned outcome of this work, the consistency of the feedback has been impossible to ignore.

These 3 stories feel especially worthy of sharing.

Client Story #1: Decades of Chronic Pain

One client reached out to me with the request to help address longstanding pain and inflammation in her back. Nutrition was never discussed, nor was changing her diet part of her intention.

After a few months into working together, she mentioned something surprising.

She found herself walking past foods at the grocery store she once couldn't resist. Her prior cravings for chips and cookies were gone, and suddenly these routine snacks held little appeal. Instead, she noticed a desire for simple meals made from fresh ingredients.

In an email update to me, she explained the shift with a sense of awe. "It's like my body just intuitively knows what’s best for it now."

The change wasn't driven by willpower. It simply felt natural.

As her body continued to detox through the protocol and shed more layers of inflammation - which testing confirmed was largely a result of the preservatives from ultra-processed food - her salivary glands and taste buds started to evolve & return to homeostasis, in a way that took us both by surprise. Never planned, but certainly a welcome result.

Client Story #2: The Weight Loss Journey

Another client initially contacted me with the goal of supporting healthy weight loss.

While she was pleased to see progress in that area, what surprised her most wasn't the number on the scale or the fact that her clothes began loosening after the first month of sessions.

It was how dramatically her cravings had changed. “A night and day difference,” she described.

Foods she once relied on for comfort no longer tasted satisfying, and she began enjoying meals she had previously considered "boring" because they genuinely tasted better.

Rather than feeling deprived, she felt liberated. “How is this possible?!” she exclaimed to me over text. “You’re 1,000 miles away and I’ve never met you in person. I am just shocked my body has responded like this! I can’t remember the last time I felt this good.”

For the first time in years, making nourishing food choices didn't require constant self-discipline. As these stored imbalances were released from her system, the body performed something akin to a hardware reboot; coming back online and craving real foods that provided real fuel.

Client Story #3: Saying Goodbye to Crippling Anxiety

A third long-term client was primarily focused on improving her mental health, which she first described to me as “less than ideal.” Her anxiety was at an all-time high and beginning to interfere with her quality of life.

As we took her body through the energy protocol, the stress and tension started to subside. Her Oura ring statistics also showed signs of improvement - deeper sleep, less time spent during the day in high stress mode, and higher recovery numbers suggested that her nervous system was healing.

I wasn’t expecting that she, too, would report a change in the foods she desired - but lo and behold, her email to me one Monday morning caused my jaw to drop.

“For the past 10 years, I’ve had the same breakfast every morning - two pieces of toast, with jam, and a hardboiled egg. I’ve totally lost the taste for the toast and jam over the past few weeks and now only want fruit along with my egg. It’s like my body is repulsed by anything non-food now. I’ve also started to connect the dots between anytime I eat something ultra-processed and how it impacts my mindset & anxiety. My body will steer away from it before I can even consciously register what’s going on.”

Why Might This Be Happening?

These experiences raise an interesting question.

When the body is functioning in a more balanced state, does it begin communicating its needs more clearly?

I’ve seen interoception - the mind-body connection - certainly strengthen in my clients (and myself) as a result of this work. When it comes to food, many ultra-processed foods are specifically engineered to maximize flavor, convenience, and repeat consumption. Research has linked diets high in ultra-processed foods with increased inflammation and a greater risk of numerous chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic disorders. While scientists continue to study the exact mechanisms involved, reducing consumption of ultra-processed foods is widely recommended as part of an overall healthy dietary pattern.

But what I’ve observed isn't that clients are trying harder to avoid these foods.

Rather, they're telling me they simply don't enjoy them anymore - and instead, they're experiencing a genuine preference for foods that are closer to their natural state.

That distinction feels important.

Because lasting change often happens not through greater willpower, but through a genuine shift in what feels nourishing.

An Observation Worth Noting

It's important to emphasize that these stories are anecdotal observations from individual clients. While are not the intended outcome of the Aging as Intended modality, it’s a pattern worth sharing.

When multiple clients—working towards entirely different goals—begin reporting the same unexpected experience without prompting, it suggests an interesting byproduct of how energy can impact the body, mind, and soul.

Perhaps one of the greatest indicators of healing isn't simply feeling better.

Perhaps it's that the body begins asking for what truly supports it.
